Great information. My son is only six years old and his teacher commends all the time for his critical thinking and ability to think outside the box. How can i help him to develop what already comes natural?

Critical thinking is not about comparing but rather analyzing both aspects and undertanding both. The difference is that you don’t dismiss one over the other and you don’t completely choose. You understand that both exist at the same time and there is not a need to choose one over the other but just an understanding of both (duality)

It is not necessary a matter of being right or wrong, but sometimes it is not the critical thinker who doesn’t have all the information, but the other that doesn’t have – or doesn’t want to have- all the information.

I realise I posted my first comment from a discussion point of view, and sometimes you have to decide for yourself that you well, just disagree.

You’re shifting responsibility by saying that it’s the other person that doesn’t have all the information. Part of your missing information is the information on how to arrive at an understanding.

It’s very tough stuff, and extremely rare to have that level of understanding with someone.

In the everyday world, yes, we often have to agree to disagree. But that’s only because we are not willing to spend the effort required to come to a critical understanding.

Very insightful indeed. Though there is a possible point of friction when your own set of (moral)beliefs meets someone else’s beliefs and they contradict strongly. Taking a moral stand yourself excludes some other points of view in a way, it seems.

It would seem, indeed; but ultimately, is one person right and the other wrong?

Thinking at the highest level, if you disagree with someone, you are missing information. Disagreements are caused because our communication forms are terrible at conveying information.

If we all had access to the exact same information (some say we do already), then there would never be any disagreements.
