You’re right, this thing old news! Reality is: I took 2 years off from this site before I came back full steam in 2010. I will be coming out with some income reports in the next few months.

I’ve never paid much attention to the world of blogs generating money (not that I didn’t know it was going on – I’ve just never spent time reading details) so interesting post.

I have adblock turned on in firefox so I never see anyone’s ads on their blogs and it always surprises me that others aren’t doing the same. But even more amazing is that people actually click on the ads. This is why I have no problems with credit cards – I hate to shop and feel no need to own a lot of stuff.

I do admit I’m an amazon affiliate – although I’ve never made much money with it. Except last christmas someone bought a plasma screen tv clicking through my affiliate link. That $200 credit with amazon was a nice surprise. I haven’t gotten a check since then – clearly I don’t have the right mindset.

Maybe you should review televisions to go for a the high ticket items on amazon. Books don’t generate much cash in comparison.

That’s not a bad idea, to go for higher ticket items; but reviewing books is more of a passion than a money-maker. The affiliate links are really secondary.

what have you been doing to attract more traffic to the site?

Very insightful, Ben. Unfortunately, I haven’t been keeping accurate records of my time spent; but I can tell you that I was spending about 80 hours a week for the first month, 40 for the next 2, 20 for the next 3, and now I’ve got it down to about 10 hours a week.

Do you also keep track of the time you spend on this site? I would guess your time spent has gone down a lot since originally building the site and is now fairly steady despite increases in earnings.

I think it would be interesting to show how a website becomes more and more passive over time.

Congrats! I got the book by the way and agree wtih many of the things it states. As far as income I’ve made some money but not much this past month, been thinking of adding that tip jar to my site.
