1,143 Subscriptions

Feedburner feed subscriptions increased 12% in September to 1,143.

Subscriptions are the most solid indicator of blog growth.

Traffic can bounce up and down like crazy with boosts from social media sites or Google trends.

Subscribers represent a solid indicator of readership.

All though September was a slow month, the numbers are still good.

It’s interesting that average daily visits caught up with subscriptions right on cue.

66,207 Page Views

Page Views on Genius Types increased from 62,311 in August to 66,207 in September, a 6.3% increase.

Even though it wasn’t a huge jump over August, I’m happy to report that the growth was very organic. September showed a strong traffic increase without the assistance of lower-quality Stumble Upon traffic.

Page Views

The compound monthly growth rate since the beginning of the year is 25%.

Money Post

An article I wrote about Husker football really caught on amongst Nebraskans and set a record for most page views in a single month on Genius Types. At one point, the traffic on that article crashed the server for an hour.

The exciting part was that the traffic was almost entirely organic. Instead of relying on StumbleUpon for casual passer-bys, almost half the traffic to this article was from email referrals.

Google traffic increased 10% over last month and continues to be the bedrock of Genius Types.

HuskerPedia picked up my Husker article and sent it viral for Nebraska fans.

Corey’s blind endorsement of Genius Types on Lazy Man and Money continued to produce.

Projected Traffic

Here’s this month’s dose of speculation:

If Genius Types continues to grow exponentially at about 25% per month, I’ll be looking at over 4.5 million page views over the next 12 months!

This, of course, is based on a compound monthly growth rate of 25%.

At $10 CPM, that would mean $45,000!

I could live with that.

1,023 Subscriptions

Feedburner feed subscriptions increased 27% in August to 1,023.

It was neat to get to the 1,000 subscription mark. (Sanel called it in a comment on the July Income Report!)

Subscriptions are my favorite indicator of blog growth.

2007 Monthly Subscriptions

Traffic can be fickle, but subscribers represent a regular reader base. The growth curve for feed subscriptions is much smoother than the curve for page views.

Best of all, the compound monthly growth rate (3-month rolling average) of my feed subscriptions is 32% vs. 21% for page views.

32% compounded exponentially is much more exciting than 21.

Subscriptions vs. Visits

There’s an interesting correlation between feed subscriptions and average daily unique visitors.

As you can see on the chart, the feed line (blue) is much more consistent than the average daily visits line (green).

But, in general, the number of my feed subscribers is just about the same as the number of daily visits.

Subscription growth continues to be an exciting indicator at Genius Types! Thanks to all my loyal readers.

Page Views on Genius Types increased from 43,442 in July to 62,311 in August, a 43.4% increase.

It’s interesting how traffic jumped up and down like a stock over the last 6 months. The spikes usually have to do with StumbleUpon traffic, which tends to come in bursts; although the quality is lower.

Page Views

Fortunately, the overall trend is up. The compound monthly growth rate (3 month rolling average) is sitting at 21%.

Money Post

It’s also interesting how one post can drive an entire site. I wrote Five Ways to Create Passive Income With Little or No Money almost a year ago and it’s still my #1 traffic producer with over 36,000 page views in it’s lifetime.

At $10 CPM, that post has been worth about $360 to me.

If Genius Types continues to grow exponentially at about 21% per month, I’ll be looking at over 3 million page views over the next 12 months!

Hmm, let’s see… at $10 CPM, that would mean $32,000.

Genius Types received 48,952 page views in June.

Unique visitors to Genius Types increased from 10,463 in May to 16,938 in June, a 38% increase.

Genius Types added 227 feedburner subscribers over the month (a 34% increase), averaging about 7.5 per day and ending the month with 671 subscribers.

The compound monthly growth rate (rolling average over the last 3 months) of overall traffic is 18%.

I moved from a Technorati Rank of 17,592 to 14,917.

Traffic Report :: May 2007

Genius Types received 34,865 page views in May.

Not counting StumbleUpon traffic, unique visitors to Genius Types increased from 8,286 in April to 10,463 in May, a 26% increase. Since April traffic included an unusually high number of StumbleUpon referrals (8,616); overall traffic actually decreased.

I added a whopping 140 feedburner subscribers over the month (56% more than I added last month), averaging about 4.5 per day and ending the month with 444 subscribers.

While StumbleUpon traffic can be very exciting when it hits all at once, the traffic spike is a little deceiving. StumbleUpon visitors don’t intentionally choose to visit your site, they are basically just put there (hence the name). As a result, there tends to be more bounces and less rss subscribers, comments, and Ad clicks.

I’ll take all the traffic I can get, but I am more concerned with organic growth, meaning rss subscribers and regular readers.

The compound monthly growth rate (rolling average over the last 3 months) of overall traffic dropped to 22%, which still beats any other business model I know of.

I moved from a Technorati Rank of 20,573 to 17,592.

Traffic Report :: April 2007

Traffic increased nicely last month from 10,314 unique visitors in March to 16,902 in April.

The compound monthly growth rate (rolling average over the last 3 months) is holding strong at 46%.

The statistic I’m most proud of is the growth in Feedburner feed subscriptions. Genius Types gained 90 subscribers over the month, averaging about 3 per day and ending the month with 304 subscribers according to Feedburner.

I also moved from a Technorati Rank of around 30,000 to 20,573 largely because of a successful Technorati Exchange Party.
