I really liked this entry. When I got near the end of my college experience, I had developed an education-craving appetite. I landed somewhere sensible, where I’m breaking a lot of the rules; but I couldn’t be happier breaking them! I keep paving new ways to do things, which is liberating in itself. It’s a love/hate relationship with my employer, but I am staying true to myself–sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Working for free taught me a lot more than working a dead-end job somewhere. I agree completely. And people are surprisingly willing to reward you if you do a good job ^^

What a great story! Your spirit, free and entrprenuerial shine through so eloquently. We are defined by our actions and choices, not by what we have to show. No doubt your palace of gold awaits.

During my studies as mechanical engineer I jobbed as a traslator during the erection of a new waste treatment plant, only 2 years later I was the technical manager of that plant, but I’ve got the luck that since the times I was a traslator I was always good paid.

Also for me it was true, that starting from the bottom I got a lot of insights, I learned a lot and I was never afraid to get dirty (remember that we were treating waste), on this way I earned unvaluable experience and also respect.

Since two years I moved from that job, unfortunately I’m learning very few things on the new job. You made me conscious again, that learning, contributing and being motivated has more value than a good pay… but it is hard to accept and to adapt/reduce the lifestyle.

Nice story, I was able to identify myself with the principles behind it.

I am “free” a spirit too, meaning that I prefer working for “free” sometimes, but also the fact that I’ve never entertained the thoughts that my parents had for me. I just couldn’t accept the thought that I’d have to be employee for someone and live the “corporate employee lifestyle”.

Instead of being an employee for some corporation, I’d prefer (if all my business ideas fail) to move to a third world country and live a very simple life, as a fisherman or something.

I’m currently at the “Dust and Designs” section of my life story and I’m very confident that by the end of this year I will get very close to my chosen lifestyle.

Fantastic entry Brian… I particularly like the ‘chosen life’ paragraph for no matter what an experience whether it be negative or positive is an experience that is enjoyed in hindsight.
