June 22nd, 2007 under Affiliate Programs.
Text Link Ads have consistently been a top income earner for Genius Types, regularly competing for the top spot with Google AdSense. They are the logical next step for monetizing your website after you have built up a bit of traffic and page rank.
Advantages
Text-Link Ads have several advantages over Google AdSense and other ways to monetize your site including ease of use, certainty, faster payment, and competitive income.
Ease of Use

Passive Income Report :: May 2007

June 20th, 2007 under Income Reports, Passive Income.
I’m extremely pleased to report that in May, I made $1442.68 from passive income sources. That’s up $336.72, a 23% increase over March! The boost was fueled by a new wave of bulk candy vending locations and a big bump in Genius Types income.
I’m closer than ever to my goal of time freedom, which is when my passive income will be greater than my expenses.
Some of my sources are more passive than others (as explained in How Passive is Your Income), but each source has a strong …

Persistence Beats Technique Every Time

June 18th, 2007 under Personal Growth.
It’s not sexy, it’s not exciting, it’s not flashy; but plain old persistence is a much better indicator of success than skill or technique.
That’s a lesson I had to learn the hard way with years of failed businesses and changed courses.
Genius Types
If you’re like most Genius Types readers, you’re a highly intelligent, creative, entrepreneurial-type with a lot of drive. If you’re anything like me, you want the world, but you don’t have a lot of patience.
You might spend a lot …
What I Know About Google Adsense

by Brian Lee. (Visited 3834 times) (3 comments)
June 15th, 2007 under Affiliate Programs, Blogging.
Google Adsense is the most common way to monetize website traffic. It’s easy to set up, it adapts to the content of your site, and it’s relatively easy to generate clicks for revenue.
AdSense is considered PPC advertising (or “Pay Per Click”), meaning that you get paid whenever someone clicks an ad. Since everyone knows and trusts the Google brand, it’s not to difficult to get clicks.
AdSense Trade-Off
Generating an AdSense click is a bit of a trade-off. A person who clicks on an …
No One Feels Sorry for Someone Who Feels Sorry for Himself

June 12th, 2007 under Observations, Personal Growth.
It’s funny how empathy works. It’s easy to feel for someone who’s completely unselfsish and sweeps their own pain under a rug; but the second they demand our sorrow, our will to empathize with them vanishes.
Paradox
This phoenomenon seems to work against logic. We empathize with (and help) those who need it least (or at least appear to need it least), while we ignore those who appear to need it the most.
This paradox may root deeply in a subconscious Darwinian instinct to …
The First Clue You’re Not A Critical Thinker

June 11th, 2007 under Critical Thinking, Personal Growth.
I’m starting to get concerned with what I see as a global decline in critical thinking. The fact that the United States as a country and the world as a whole are both becoming more and more polarized is evidence that people are trending towards banding together in a group-think mentality instead of forming opinions of their own.
In short, critical thinking is the ability to think for yourself. (Read Become a Critical Thinker for a more detailed definition.) It means being secure enough with yourself to have your own opinions even if it means the possibility …
I’ll Take A $5,000 Passive Monthly Cashflow Over A Million Dollar Stock Portfolio Any Day

by Brian Lee. (Visited 4461 times) (13 comments)
June 8th, 2007 under Passive Income.
Here’s the prevailing wisdom on wealth: to become rich, work hard at your job and put money in your 401k from age 25 to 65 until you have a million dollars or more.
(Here at Genius Types, we tend to be very skeptical of prevailing wisdom.)
Average Scenario
Imagine someone who, like most people, works for forty years to put away a million dollars in a 401k. They can’t touch any of their money until they retire at age 65.
In retirement, every investment advisor tells them to move their investments into conservative, capital-protecting, income-producing securities. Let’s be generous and …

Fishing for Money

June 4th, 2007 under Entrepreneurship, Investing.
Lately I can’t stop watching Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. It’s a documentary series that follows Alaska crab fishermen on a dangerous quest for “red gold.” The crews battle atrocious weather, sleep deprivation, gigantic waves, and dangerous equipment in the bitterly cold Bearing Sea.
In the most dangerous job in North America, extreme risk brings extreme reward. A boat that holds a crew of five could potentially land a catch worth close to a million dollars. After the …
