Great – Article – Brian.

This set of stories was certainly my last motivating push to move forward on Cafe Press. I have been thinking about it for a few years ( drumming up the creative in relation to the prospect of profit ) and at this point you have inspired my creative to Go Go Go! I admit, it’s the passive income you spoke about. Duh! Why didn’t I put 2+2 together like you have so brilliantly here in this blog entry (all that experience you shared must be the “4″ I missed ;-P).

This is my first visit to your site, and the first post I have read from you. I look forward to your archives and please, keep up the good work!

If passive income were easy, everyone would do it. It takes a lot of time to find a diamond in the rough piece of real estate, start an automated business, or build blog traffic.

The difference with passive income is that once the work is done (in this case design and marketing), the income flows on it’s own.

You’re right, Sania, there is a lot of competition. Most people will never reach passive status; but if someone is passionate and puts in the work, it’s possible.

I guess the difficulty with these kinds of scheme is marketing your products because I’m sure there are a lot of “Sam Smiths” on cafepress and the competition must be really hard. To say that this is a source of passive income is mere rhetoric because to be able to come up with a sale you need to invest a lot of time in it.

A little issue with vending machines… I realize everyone needs their paycheck but on the other hand, I don’t think we need more unhealthy candy and processed snacks. They’re ubiquitous as it is, and certainly not making us any healthier.

Now.. how about a fresh fruit and veggies vending machine?

I give my customers the option of including peanuts of they want to avoid sugar.

When vegetables fit nicely into hard little pieces that won’t grind up in the gears of a quarter vending machine, I’ll start a veggie vending business.

For now, I’m comfortable giving the market what it wants.

You guys will have to report back to me if you do decide to try it. I am curious to see how much of an in income stream it can be. I suspect that the trick is finding a good way to market your store, but maybe a link from your blogs will do the trick.

Thanks for sharing this. I think it’s a great idea and something I’ll probably set up for myself. I’m already designing logos and slogans, why not turn that intellectual property into some passive income?

examples of passive income, but neither of them appeared at GeniusTypes. So I emailed Brian and we exchanged a few words about CafePress and the good ‘ol T-Shirt business. To make a long story short (I think I’ve already defeated that purpose though) DesigNerd has been featured on the GeniusTypes blog in an article about using CafePress to generate passive income.
