Relativism is a paradigm in which nothing is fixed and everything is relative to a person’s point of reference. Relativism is the counterpart to duality.
Many people begin to think relativistically in college. As they leave the black and white dualism of their their childhood, they are introduced to a world where right and wrong are relative to their situation. They begin to see that different people have different paradigms, and therfore different ways of thinking.
They begin to think critically and decide for themselves how they will live their lives.
The problem with relativism is that it is so intangible. Some people get so caught up in the paradigm that right and wrong are relative, that they can justify anything. They forget the fact that even though right and wrong are relative to a point of reference, there is always some point of reference, especially in a society.
