Good timing, this is a great reminder of how important is to focus in our strengths and outsource the rest. Although learning to have a general idea about everything can't be skipped. You can't delegate what you don't know.

Thanks so much for a great post!

Developing a business sense is probably easier than developing creativity. Business sense comes with experience. If entrepreneurs stay with it long enough, they learn to become organized, how to do bookkeeping, etc.

With creativity, on the other hand, you may be able to develop what you have to a certain degree, but it's mostly something that you are born with (or not).

Wow! I must agree wholeheartedly with what you said.

Many people often dream of getting into business for themselves...but most struggle with trying to fit it all together.

It's requires a constant shift to move from a creative mind set to a business mind-set...but with practice it becomes easier...I Promise.

Here's to your entrepreneurial success!

Loose track of time (as copied from your above article)
Creative people make these mistakes and do not care to differentiate lose from loose or its from it's.
Honestly, I feel your creative righting is worth the time your readers spend reading them. They are mind-stretchers.

Great post Brain! In my experience I've found that most successful entrepreneurs are big picture people that find the right people to put the support systems in place i.e. business admin, accounting, marketing etc.

This was a insightful article. Many people that are in business feel they have to do everything. Delegating and paying companies to do things they excel in that your will get a positive Return on your investment is key. I think creativity is a born talent, some have it and some don't. The business and organizational skills can be taught and developed. Creativity is what grows a business with the big ideas. There is a really great show on CNBC called the Big Idea. It is great listening to people and how they thought up these creative ideas that have made them millions.

I've heard people say before that you are left or right brained. Left brained usually means you're more logical and right brained means your more creative. You can do a simple test that's usually pretty accurate by folding your hands together and seeing which thumb ends up on top.

The one point I wanted to make though, is that as an entrepreneur, you don't have to master everything. In reality, your best off learning something, setting up a system for how it should be done, and then delegating it to someone else. You need the basic understanding of all parts of a business system, otherwise you won't be able to tell if your employees are swindling you or doing what they should be. Also, once you have a basic setup that functions and produces positive cashflow, then you should focus on finding employees with skills in areas that you have weaknesses in so that they can fine tune your system and allow for greater and faster growth.

A great book about why entrepreneurs fail is "The E-Myth Revisited" by Michael Gerber (http://www.amazon.com/E-Myth-Revisited-Small-Businesses-About/dp/0887307280/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-6289995-2111604?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194012073&sr=8-1). He discusses the turn-key system that we see in franchises today and how they have a 95% success rate due to following a proven system.

<!--%kramer-pre%-->morning, work in somebody’s office, report to a boss, leave by the end of the day, and get a regular paycheck. It’s that thing we’re supposed to get when we grow up, when we’re done with school. It’s also becoming more and more irrelevant. The Key to Entrepreneurial Success is Balancing Business and Creativity: Most people fit into one of two categories: 1) business minded or 2) creative; but to be successful as an entrepreneur, you need both. That’s why so few small businesses succeed: their leaders are too heavy on one side or the other.<!--%kramer-post%-->
