Haha! Great post! I was fully giggling at every comment because I have found myself saying all those excuses to myself many times,…particularly writing essays at a near approaching due-date. Great point too!

blogger’s?) block, a bottle of red wine will re-ignite the spark of inspiration in me. As helpful as this may be, it also puzzles me. What is it about red wine that makes me creative, when without it creativity comes to a grinding halt?

It happens to everybody, no one is immune.

But I wonder how one can be “positively suffocating”???

When I don’t know what to write about in my blogs I usually just get into my RSS reader and find something there that I can comment about. Once I find something that I have an opinion on to share, it’s much easier to get the words going.

I’ve found that most times when I don’t know what to write it’s because I don’t have a well thought out opinion, or I’m not sure the best way to write about a topic. In either case I find reading more about the topic to be the biggest help.

Haha, that was a very unique post. It was set up poetry-like.

Although every post would be weird if you wrote it like that, this one was very cool. I enjoyed it. Also, you made a huge point about “just writing”.

I write a lot everyday between writing articles, 2 websites, and school. I can say from experience, the only way to overcome writers block is to just start typing – even if it makes no sense.

Ha! I know what you mean. I usually do exactly what you did…just start writing.

I used to write long entries into a journal, then edit them down for the blog. Nowadays, I just start wth a title, or concept, and just start filling in the blanks. But even that has slowed down for me lately.

However, looks like you’ve got yourself a pretty descent looking philosophical-type of poem above.

The book below did wonders for me, has a beautiful way of describing a “block” as “resistance.”
The author (whom you may know from Jurassic Park) details how resistance works and how it may be overcome. I particularly enjoyed the end of the book where he discusses creativity and how to encourage it to ‘flow through you.’ He depicts it as a divine Muse that will how up, if you show up.

All in all a great eye opener. The book is geared for authors, entrepreneurs and so on, but I found is most applicable to software engineering as well.
